Alongside commissioned projects, James maintains an ongoing personal illustration practice.

This collection brings together self-initiated work exploring composition, storytelling, character and visual experimentation. Free from the constraints of a client brief, these pieces provide space to develop ideas, refine techniques and push his creative practice in new directions.

Many of these illustrations begin as simple sketches before evolving into fully realised artworks, reflecting James’ commitment to drawing as the foundation of every piece.

Personal work continues to shape and inform his commercial illustration practice, allowing him to approach each new project with curiosity, confidence and a distinctive visual style.
